Information on drivers licenses, non-driver licenses, and permits with the MO Department of Revenue.

Missouri Department of Revenue The Motor Vehicle and Driver Licensing Division administers Missouri’s laws that relate to titling and registration of motor vehicles, trailers, all-terrain vehicles, manufactured homes, and marine craft, and licensing drivers. Specifically, Missouri: requires drivers age 70 and older to renew their licenses every three years, and; accepts requests from family members and others for the DOR to conduct unsafe driver investigations. License Renewal Rules for Older Drivers. Special rules apply to drivers who are 70 and older who seek to renew their licenses.

Overview

Driver's licensing, driving exams, and motor vehicle licensing and titling are services provided by the state of Missouri, not the City of St. Louis. See the guidelines below for how to obtain, renew or replace a driver's license or ID.

Gather Documents

You will need to bring documentation with you to obtain, renew or replace a license or ID. These documents may include a birth certificate, social security card, passport, utility bill or other documents. Review the Drivers Licensing Checklist to see what documents you will need.

The MO Department of Revenue has a list and map of all office locations where you can obtain or renew your license.

The locations within the city limits are listed below. All three of these locations are walk-in only (no appointments), but the downtown office uses a virtual lobby so you can wait outside until you are notified via text that it is your turn. Please call to confirm hours of operation.

Visit the Drivers' License Office

  1. Visit one of the license office located in the City with your required documentation (or find other license office locations).
  2. Apply for the correct license, test, or permit.
  3. Pay the required licensing or permit fees.

What to Expect

At the time of processing, you will receive a temporary, paper document and may keep the old license card, which will be punched “VOID.” The permanent license will be produced at a single, secure facility, and arrive in the mail at the address provided within 7 to 10 business days.

Mo Drivers License Test Locations

The license card is mailed in a regular envelope through the U.S. Postal Service, similar to the way a credit card or passport is mailed. The envelope will have a return mail address for the Department of Revenue.

Note: Some applications, such as a new Commercial Driver License, will require a secondary review for final approval and may exceed the average 7-10 day time frame.
