Capcom is inexplicably skipping a Resident Evil CODE: Veronica remake in favour of Resident Evil 4, which let’s be honest, doesn’t really need a revamp just yet. But don’t feel too bad, as fans have taken upon themselves to remake the classic 2000 survival horror title themselves, and it looks fantastic.
RECVfanremake site is working on a full remake of Resident Evil CODE: Veronica, which is planned as a free release and is not accepting any donations towards the project.
The remake is taking a leaf out of the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 revamps, in the sense it employs an over-the-shoulder perspective. However, the locations, enemies and everything else that made the game unique are very much intact.
You can watch a video of it below.
Resident Evil CODE: Veronica was released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 and later ported to the PS2 for the series’ fifth anniversary the following year, complete with extra cutscenes. This version, known as Resident Evil CODE: Veronica X, was also ported to GameCube, PS3 and Xbox 360.
After the official remakes of Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3, Capcom appears to be working on Resident Evil 4 Remake. Now as you may have noticed, the team has skipped a RE game that came right after RE3. That RE game is no other than Resident Evil Code Veronica. And since Capcom is not planning to remake it, some fans decided to create their own in Unity Engine.
This fan remake of Resident Evil Code Veronica will feature 3D environments and will be a third-person shooter. The remake aims to retain the style of the original game. Naturally, it will feature reimagined versions of all maps… or at least that’s the plan.
Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake will feature two modes; Remake and Classic. The Remake Mode will feature a third-person camera and faithful expanded scenarios. On the other hand, the Classic Mode will have fixed camera angles like the original game.
Furthermore, the game promises to feature new cinematics, new gameplay mechanics, expanded scenarios and puzzles, and save rooms.
Now while all this sounds too good to be true, the team released a gameplay video that appears to be quite polished (at least for a fan project). So, here is hoping that Capcom will not send them a C&D letter.
